Re-processing: The Elephant Trunk
With the weather being absolutely horrible lately, I’ve been working on re-processing old data with new techniques. Today I feel like I hit a new level. I combined things I’ve learned from a TikTok friend and Cuiv the Lazy Geek on YouTube. I’m finally able to control color to the level I’ve been trying to achieve for a few months.
This data is from August and represents about 5 hours of exposure time. It was captured with the Askar C1 narrowband filter, which allows me to extract Ha and OIII.
About the Elephant’s Trunk…
The Elephant's Trunk Nebula, known as IC 1396A, is a notable feature in the IC 1396 region of the Cygnus constellation. This emission nebula has a long shape resembling an elephant's trunk and stretches about 27 light-years high. It is part of a larger cloud of gas and dust where new stars are forming. The strong radiation from nearby stars makes the surrounding material glow. The Elephant's Trunk is a valuable location for studying star formation and interstellar matter dynamics.
